Tasmanian MPs Speak Out Against Gender Ideology

Women Speak Tasmania welcomes Liberal Senator Eric Abetz’s public comments on the dangers of the gender affirmation model and the growing international backlash against the medicalisation of children.

Mr Abetz said:

“Young people are now suing governments and institutions over the puberty blockers administered to them and the promotion of the affirmation agenda, rather than in-depth counselling and consideration of the issues they are confronting.”

Women Speak Tasmania thanks Mr Abetz for speaking clearly on these important issues.

The Tasmanian Gender Service uses leuprorelin, a puberty-blocking drug also marketed in the United States as Lupron. US prescribing information reports depression, including rare cases of suicidal ideation and suicide attempts, in children treated with the medication. These serious safety concerns reinforce the urgent need for an independent inquiry into the Tasmanian Gender Service. its prescribing practices and the safeguards in place to protect children.

Women Speak Tasmania is calling for an independent inquiry into the Tasmanian Gender Service and a proper parliamentary inquiry into the Greens’ Conversion Practices Bill.

Tasmanian families deserve answers. Children deserve thorough assessment and counselling. Parliament must not silence legitimate concerns.
