Tasmanian Awards for Disservice to Free Speech

On International Human Rights Day 2020, Women Speak Tasmania presents the first of our:

TASMANIAN AWARDS FOR DISSERVICE TO FREE SPEECH.

Our awards go to:

* UTAS Tasmanian Law Reform Institute – for refusing to allow Women Speak Tasmania to speak at a forum on gender reforms, and failing to consult with women’s groups (like WST) that support female sex-based rights.

* Equal Opportunity Tasmania – for accepting a clearly vexatious anti-discrimination claim against Senator Claire Chandler over her opinion, expressed in a private email, that male bodied people should not be permitted to participate in women’s sports.

* Andrew Wilkie MP – former whistle-blower with the Office of National Assessments – for banning WST members from his office based on the hearsay allegations of his ex-wife – now known as Charlie Burton – and another ‘men’s’ rights activist, allegations for which he failed to provide any evidence.

* Councillor Holly Ewin – for attempts to have WST banned from speaking at Hobart City Council meetings and failing to provide evidence of allegations of bigotry and transphobia against WST members.

* ABC Tasmania – for failing to report on any of the above public interest matters concerning freedom of speech in this state or reporting any views alternative to those of the gender lobby.
