Health Minister Sarah Courtney Must Review Use of Puberty Blockers

Women Speak Tasmania today contacted the Health Minister Sarah Courtney’s office to seek an urgent review of the treatment guidelines used by the Tasmanian Gender Service following from last week’s UK High Court decision in the case of Keira Bell and Mrs A.

“The decision determined that experimental treatments for children and young people with gender dysphoria are not appropriate and that the use of puberty blockers must be reviewed.” said Isla MacGregor

“Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt, following from a call in 2019 for an independent inquiry into Australian treatment guidelines for children with gender dysphoria, raised the issue with a COAG Council of health officials in June this year.”

“Minister Hunt requested all state Health Ministers review their state’s treatment guidelines.”

“The UK High Court decision has global implications for gender services. Women Speak Tasmania urge Health Minister Sarah Courtney to establish a review into treatment guidelines currently being used by the Tasmanian Gender Service as a matter of urgency”. said Isla MacGregor
