Gender Ideology and Cult Behaviour

Does gender ideology exhibit cult-like behaviour?

According to Steven Hassan’s BITE model of mind control, destructive cults exert control through four key components: Behaviour, Information, Thought, and Emotion. When a group successfully controls one or more of these components, the others are likely to follow, reinforcing the system of influence.

  • Behaviour Control – enforcing conformity through speech codes (pronouns), mandated participation in training, and punishing dissent.
  • Information Control – limiting access to critical perspectives, censoring debate, and framing alternative evidence (e.g., the Cass Review) as “misinformation.”
  • Thought Control – promoting absolutist slogans (“trans women are women”), discouraging independent analysis, and redefining terms like “man” and “woman” to fit ideology.
  • Emotional Control – using fear, guilt, and accusations of “transphobia” to silence critics, while elevating emotional narratives (“affirmation saves lives”) over balanced evidence.

When examined against these four components, gender ideology can be seen as operating with cult-like mechanisms of influence, prioritising conformity and emotional allegiance over open inquiry and safeguarding.
