Tasmanians will no doubt be interested in the IOCs turning a blind eye to the International Boxing Organisation’s warning about the serious problems with allowing males to compete in women’s sports.
While the Olympics fiasco concerns a person with a Disorder of Sex Development, DSD, and not a trans identified male competing in women’s sports, this nevertheless highlights the urgent need, internationally, to repeal sex self ID laws.
Women Speak Tasmania have opposed sex self ID laws since the release of the first draft discussion paper by the Tasmanian Law Reform Institute in 2018. Since then, WST has consistently publicly raised serious concerns over fairness and safety for women and children as a consequence of these laws.
It’s time Premier Rockliff took his head out of the sand and established a Parliamentary inquiry into sex self ID laws, including public hearings, so we can hear first hand the impacts these bad laws are having on the community.
In the name of ‘kindness’, let’s hear it from those so adversely affected. Lets finally get some sunlight on an issue that until now a culture of fear and silence has prevailed.
