Today, a delegation of concerned Tasmanian citizens – including parents, teachers, health professionals, members of LGB Alliance Australia, Women’s Action Alliance Tasmania and Women Speak Tasmania – met with the Tasmanian Attorney-General, Guy Barnett, to present a detailed compilation of testimonies documenting the real-world harm caused by current gender policies and anti-discrimination legislation.
The delegation outlined how Tasmania’s existing legal and policy settings are impacting ordinary people across the state – from parents unable to safeguard their children, to teachers subjected to ideological harassment, to women whose rights to single-sex services and spaces have been eroded.
The testimony file, titled “How Gender Policies and Anti-Discrimination Laws Discriminate Against Tasmanians,” includes statements from Tasmanians across diverse backgrounds who describe:
- Institutional pressure to comply with gender ideology, even when it conflicts with safeguarding, medical ethics, or child welfare.
- Harassment and discrimination in workplaces and schools when individuals express evidence-based or sex-based views.
- Loss of female-only spaces and protections, placing women and girls at risk.
- Parents being sidelined in critical decisions affecting their children’s wellbeing.
- Clinicians and educators feeling censored, unable to speak openly about concerns due to fear of professional repercussions.
Delegates thanked the Attorney-General for his willingness to meet and to hear the concerns of everyday Tasmanians who feel unable to speak publicly due to the current climate of censorship and intimidation.
Women Speak Tasmania Director Dr Elizabeth Caballero said:
“These testimonies show a pattern: ordinary Tasmanians across many sectors are being silenced or harmed by policies that prioritise gender identity over sex, safety, evidence and rights. Today was an important step toward restoring balance, transparency and genuine safeguarding.”
The group urged the Government to consider legislative reforms that reinstate sex as a protected category, safeguard children, uphold freedom of belief and speech, and ensure institutions can operate without ideological coercion.
