Gender Ideology Propaganda in Tasmanian Libraries

On 26 June 2025, Women Speak Tasmania raised serious concerns about a disturbing trend in our public institutions. Books promoting gender ideology are being made freely available in the children’s sections of Tasmanian libraries — endorsed and supported under so-called inclusion policies sponsored by the Department of Education.

Among the titles are:

  • The Gender Wheel
  • The Pronoun Lowdown
  • What Are Your Words?
  • The Gender Book

These books are not neutral educational resources. They are ideological propaganda, pushing concepts of self-chosen “gender identity” onto children far too young to understand such complex and controversial issues. Instead of providing age-appropriate lessons about biology, safety, and respect, these resources invite children to question their sex, adopt new labels, and see gender as a “game” or “wheel of choice.”

Teaching children your body is fluid?
We have always been infinity.
Compelled speech and gender ideology all in one.
More pronoun confusion.
Junior section. More Gender Indoctrination

Why This Matters

  • Unsuitable for Age: These titles are targeted at children, some as young as five, and introduce adult political concepts long before children can critically evaluate them.
  • Confusion Over Biology: By replacing sex with “gender identity,” children are taught to deny the biological reality of being male or female.
  • Institutional Endorsement: The Department of Education is backing this material under inclusion and diversity programs, effectively using public money to indoctrinate children rather than safeguard them.

Our Position

Children need protection, not politicisation. They deserve age-appropriate, factual education based on biology, not confusing ideologies that sexualise, destabilise, and encourage them to deny their own bodies.

Tasmanian families should be alarmed that gender ideology has been smuggled into schools and libraries under the guise of “inclusion.” Public institutions must stop promoting propaganda and start putting the safeguarding of children first.
