ABC Bias in Coverage of Women’s Rights and Free Speech Issues – Email to Hugh Marks

Email sent to Hugh Marks on 21 June 2026

Dear Mr Marks,

I’ve just sent another complaint to Media Watch and Linton Besser (see below) about ABC’s ever more embarrassing bias. I’ve long given up on ever expecting any meaningful response from ABC’s Complaints system, but I have been impressed with Linton Besser’s genuine responses to previous complaints about ABC’s woefully biased framing of anything related to women defending their rights as “anti-trans”.

In November 2025, Media Watch did cover ABC’s failure to cover some very high public interest stories on this subject, in particular Sall Grover’s landmark appeal case, Giggle V Tickle. Media Watch did conclude that, on matters involving women’s rights, ABC has indeed shown consistent bias.

Here are some public examples of thoughtful and well referenced complaints showing obvious bias.  https://womenspeaktas.au/2025/10/10/abc-bias-in-terminology-used-to-describe-the-let-women-speak-rally-letter-to-the-abc-ombudsman/)

Many of us were very relieved to see you show strong leadership by ending ACON’s involvement with the ABC. However it’s very clear that there is further work to be done to end this ridiculous pantomime that has gone on for far too long.

ACON was no longer adding value to ABC, because clearly it’s already embedded its ideology deeply into staff culture via its “train the trainer” schemes.

Please keep working to restore a culture of open inquiry without fear or favour.

Best regards,

L.G
