The Devonport RSL is to be congratulated for standing up for freedom of speech following from Women Speak Tasmania’s forum held at the Devonport RSL on the evening of 7 May “Women’s Rights in the Modern World,”.
The WST forum this week marks a significant milestone in Australia for Women’s rights groups with the Devonport RSL, a veterans charity, being the first independent venue in Australia not to cave into pressure from anti free speech activists by cancelling our event.
WST forums previously booked in April at Devonport Library and Hive Ulverstone were both cancelled due to bullying and intimidation by anti free speech activists.
WST’s forum was well attended with members attending from across the community including health and education professionals, business people and Burnie Councillor Trent Aitken.
We thank the Devonport RSL for standing by the values of real inclusion and diversity, and open and robust debate in our democracy.
