On 28 April, Women Speak Tasmania members took action in Hobart, visiting the electorate offices of our federal representatives ahead of the coming election. Our goal was simple: to see whether our elected officials are prepared to answer the most basic of questions—what is a woman?

Holding Politicians Accountable
We began at the office of Senator Nick McKim (Greens). This is the same Senator who infamously referred to women as “turds” in the federal parliament. His record speaks volumes about the Greens’ contempt for women who speak up for their sex-based rights.

From there, we visited Andrew Wilkie MP (Independent, Denison). Mr Wilkie, once celebrated as an ONA whistleblower, now appears unwilling—or unable—to answer the fundamental question of what a woman is. His silence on this issue reflects a broader pattern of political evasion and denial.

Why We Act
This action day was not just about visiting offices. It was about reminding politicians that women are watching. The rights of women and girls are being eroded by policies built on gender ideology, and those in positions of power must be held to account.
Ahead of the Federal Election
As Australians prepare to go to the polls, Women Speak Tasmania will continue to shine a light on candidates and parties that refuse to defend women’s rights. Voters deserve to know where their representatives stand on safeguarding women and children.
On 28 April in Hobart, we made it clear: we expect answers. We expect accountability. And we will not be silenced.
