Push for Parliamentary Inquiry into sex self ID Laws following Olympics Fiasco

In the last few days the world has been witness to the disastrous result that sex self ID laws have had on women’s sports. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has failed to protect female athletes by allowing men who identify as women, whether intersex or transgender, to compete against women.

Dr Elizabeth Caballero Pastor said

‘We have seen in the female boxing category at the Olympics, a male with a Disorder of Sex Development  (DSD) being allowed to compete against a woman.’

‘There are known physiological advantages for males in different sports ranging from a 10-30% advantage over females.’

Inclusion must not take priority over fairness and safety for women. The IOC position on passports fails to take into account the evidence submitted to them by the International Boxing Association.

‘This year alone WST has received complaints from members of over 5 different sporting organisations concerned about male participation in female sports: soccer, mountain bike riding, ten pin bowling, lawn bowls and  netball. Sports Women remain too scared to speak out publicly.’

‘WST calls on Premier Rockcliff, in the name of fairness and safety for women, to hold a proper Parliamentary Inquiry into the impacts of sex self ID laws for women in sports and other services and facilities.’
