A feminist critique

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on this date to acknowledge the gains made by women in their struggle for rights. It is a time to reflect on the challenges ahead of us in these times of global uncertainty. Feminist are committed to centering women at the core of our struggle. Increasing poverty and disadvantage are making women more vulnerable to exploitation. At the same time, conflict in the feminist movement is under the spotlight. Feminist have long campaigned to end to the commodification and exploitation of women. Unfortunately, we are seeing an alarming shift to endorse male entitlement to buy sex, rent wombs, pornify women, and erase the meaning of what it is to be a female. All under the guise of female agency. Never before have women faced such a threat to gains won by decades of activism as a consequence of laws that have erased protections, especially here in Tasmania under amended anti-discrimination laws.

Its time for analysis in sections of the women’s movement over their complicity and subordination of women by men’s rights activist.
