On Monday this week, Women Speak Tasmania lodged a Code of Conduct complaint with Hobart City Council against Councillor Holly Ewin.
‘We understand the Hobart City Council Code of Conduct requires Councillors to treat all people with respect, including members of the public and fellow Councillors’, said Women Speak Tasmania spokesperson, Bronwyn Williams.
‘Councillor Ewin has made a number of false and defamatory comments about Women Speak Tasmania, on her Facebook page titled ‘Holly Ewin, Hobart City Councillor’ and during a Council meeting on 17 June’.
‘Councillor Ewin has misrepresented our position on transgender issues, and publicly accused us of promoting hate speech’.
‘She is persisting with personal attacks against us on social media, despite making no attempt to engage with us directly to discuss the relevant issues’.
‘As an elected member of the Hobart City Council, Councillor Ewin is bound by the Code of Conduct. However, she has chosen to ignore its provisions, despite being reminded by the Lord Mayor, in Council, that it is inappropriate to make offensive comments about members of the public and other Councillors’.
