Women Speak Tasmania held its three-day conference in Westbury from 20–22 November 2024, bringing together members and allies for planning, reflection, and fellowship.

This year’s conference was both enjoyable and productive, with forward planning for 2025 as a major focus. Delegates also took time to celebrate the hard work of the committee, particularly the completion and launch of the WST website in October 2024—a milestone achievement that will help strengthen our advocacy and outreach.
As part of the program, a delegation visited the office of the Attorney General, Guy Barnett, in Deloraine, meeting with his electorate officer. Our representatives raised serious concerns about the risks of litigation that Tasmania may face due to the impact of self-ID laws on women and children. This meeting was an important step in continuing to press for evidence-based, sex-based protections in law and policy.

The conference also included opportunities for connection and shared experiences. Members enjoyed an excursion to Pearn’s Steamworld, where they discovered an engaging and unexpected exhibition—a reminder of the value of curiosity, history, and community alongside serious advocacy work.

A great time was had by all, and Women Speak Tasmania looks forward to another year of committed action in 2025.
