Melbourne Women Forced to Use Secret Symbols for Safety

In 2025, Melbourne has become a battleground for women daring to speak about sex-based rights. Twice this year, women gathered peacefully on the steps of Parliament House — once on 26 April and again on 16 August for the Women Will Speak rally.

Both times, women gathered peacefully to talk about the erosion of their rights and against censorship, but their attempts to speak were met not with dialogue, but with orchestrated intimidation, aggression, and harassment from trans-activist groups determined to silence them.

April: Violence on the Streets

On 26 April, about 50 women gathered peacefully to discuss how gender identity laws are undermining protections for women and girls. They were surrounded by a crowd of over 400 pro-trans activists, armed with drums, loudspeakers, and slogans designed to drown them out.

Despite police invoking special powers, the counter-protest spilled into the city, blocking streets, burning an Australian flag, and injuring four police officers. At least two people were arrested.

Ordinary Melburnians were caught in the unrest as the mob moved unchecked through the CBD — a shocking scene that exposed just how unsafe it has become for women to simply gather in public.

August: Women Forced to Use a Secret Signal

On 16 August, the intimidation escalated even further.

This time, 120 women attended the Women Will Speak rally, only to be confronted by masked counter-protesters carrying umbrellas, flares, and online-coordinated chants of “all cops are Nazis”.

The trans-activist harassment is so common that a PASS, a witches hat with a T, on the wrists of women attending the Melbourne Women Will Speak event was shown to Victoria Police who would then let them through the barricade.

That’s right, a secret sign shown by women to Victoria Police to enable safe passage to an event outside Parliament House. A secret symbol used between women and Victoria Police to keep women safe from violent trans extremists.

Women Refuse to be Intimidated

Despite the aggression, the women refused to back down.

As organiser Jasmine Sussex declared:

“Women have had enough of angry men claiming special gender identity hijacking women’s sex-based rights. We won’t be silenced!”

Their determination shows that these rallies are not about hate, but about fairness, safety, and truth.

Our Bravery Is Our Power

Every woman who stood on the steps of Parliament — in April, in August, and in countless rallies before — is part of a global movement saying enough is enough.

They endure harassment, threats, and even physical danger, yet they keep showing up. Their courage is a reminder that free speech is not granted — it is defended.

And as long as women refuse to be silenced, their voices will only grow stronger.
