Protesters call for Minister’s intervention

Protesters will be gathering outside Hobart Town Hall at 10am Wednesday 31 January 2024 in support of Hobart Councillor Louise Elliot and freedom of political communication and other matters concerning the toxic culture in the leadership of Hobart City Council.

Louise Elliot has endured 18 months of an orchestrated campaign by a group of Councillors bent on preventing her from making public comment on her views about the failure of sex self ID laws and the detrimental impacts on women’s freedom of speech and human rights.

In addition, RTI documents have revealed that several Councillors and members of staff, have conspired to prevent Cr Elliot from hiring the Town Hall to hold a women’s rights and free speech forum.

Protesters are calling on the Minister for Local Government Nic Street to immediately establish:

  • A Board of Inquiry into the Hobart City Council including the gross discrimination, bullying and harassment that Cr Elliot and other women have been subjected to

and

  • A Parliamentary Committee to review the mounting evidence on the adverse impacts of sex self ID legislation on children, women and the Tasmanian community.
