Pamphlet: Girls and Women have a Right to Female Only Spaces

Women Speak Tasmania members distributed pamphlets to raise awareness about the risks posed by sex self-identification laws in Tasmania. These laws allow any male-bodied person to legally claim a female identity without medical transition, opening the door to women’s and girls’ spaces—spaces designed for privacy, dignity, and safety. Women and girls should never be forced to share toilets, change rooms, refuges, and shelters with male-bodied individuals.

Sex is not a feeling or a personal choice—it is a biological fact determined at birth and immutable throughout life. This reality matters because the majority of sexual and physical violence against women is committed by males. Female-only spaces exist to protect women from harm, enable recovery, and ensure participation in public life without fear or intimidation. Diluting these protections erodes decades of progress toward women’s equality and safety.

Women Speak Tasmania stands firm: women’s rights, safety, and dignity must be protected in law and in practice.
