Amend the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Act – Letter to Peter George

Dear Peter,

Congratulations on your election. I’m greatly relieved and hopeful:-)

As a Tasmanian, parent and registered high school  teacher working in Glenorchy , I’d ask once government is formed, for you to please put forward a bill to amend the Tasmanian Anti Discrimination Act which currently does not mention men and women (biological sex) as a protected characteristic.

Instead, gender identity is listed and has replaced biological sex. Gender identity, which as you know, is a nominated identity (as a means to be recognised and not discriminated against as a man or woman) is based on visual/ cultural stereotypes, not biology.

The ramifications for myself as a woman, and my family – as this concept is taught throughout Tasmanian DECYP schools as a factual psychological identity, – is causing havoc and a rise in young people ( particularly girls) seeking ‘gender affirming care’ at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

I would appreciate meeting with you to discuss these issues and my lived experience as a teacher and parent regarding these matters.

Yours sincerely,
