Women Speak Tasmania (WST) has set its sights on the Devonport RSL to hold a forum previously cancelled at two other locations on the Coast.

The rescheduled forum garnered strong comments from prominent LGBTQIA+ rights activist Rodney Croome.
“Women’s Speak Tasmania claims to be a women’s rights group but it only has one issue, discriminating against transgender women by blocking them from women’s spaces, women’s sport and gender affirming care,” he said.
“My message to the RSL is that the systematic ostracism and discrimination that WST wants to impose on trans people has no place in the free, equal and tolerant Australia our veterans fought for.”
RSL Tasmania refused to comment and could not answer whether the event would go ahead.
The controversial “women’s human rights” group, which is dubbed anti-trans by some, took to Facebook on Monday, March 31 to declare two of its forums entitled “Women’s Rights in the Modern World” were cancelled by Hive Tasmania at Ulverstone and the Devonport Library.
Hive director of community services Chris Clark said the Central Coast Council, was concerned the venue WST inquired about was not suitable for a public forum due to its size.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People’s spokesperson said Libraries Tasmania had approved the booking at Devonport Library for private use.
However, when the event was publicly advertised, Libraries Tasmania undertook an assessment and found a public forum would be inconsistent with DECYP policies.
WST has since posted advertisements about the same forum being held at Devonport RSL to social media.
The public forum has been limited to 30 seats and is set to be held on Wednesday, May 7.
The Advocate has contacted Women Speak Tasmania for comment.
